Ian Souter started trumpet at age 6 and was taught from an old English brass band performer. He got his first professional gig at 15 years of age and hasn’t looked back since.
Ian’s trumpet and voice can be heard in movies, commercials, TV Shows, records and live shows of all styles & genres: from classical to mariachi.
Noted for his breadth of style and musicality, Ian’s live performance vary from The Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park to the Mariachi Spectacular in Albuquerque, NM.
His TV appearances include The Tonight Show, Conan O’Brien, The Jimmy Kimmel Show, The Bachelor and more. His most notable movie appearance to date is playing trumpet for the pinnacle scene in the Nicholas Cage movie, Mandy.
Record appearances range from a ska big band to an unearthed musical touring act score recording to pop to soul to latin to… you get the picture.
One of the livelier recent projects Ian is involved with is the venerable Mariachi Manchester, who play mariachi versions of the music of The Smiths and Morrissey. Considering the fact that Ian is probably one of the few mariachi musicians from Manchester, England, this is quite an appropriate fit.
Ian can be found playing mariachi gigs in back yards throughout the LA basin, arranging & recording brass and vocals for all styles of records both in his home studio and on-location.
